Inside Information: SM7 - Special Edition for Shure
In 2023 Shure, the world leader in audio electronics, celebrated the 50th birthday of one of their most iconic microphones, the SM7. We were approached to produce an artwork that marks this massive milestone.
Our Inside Information print tells the story behind the history of the company, all hidden inside a cutaway of their best-selling SM7B microphone that is used by musicians and podcasters across the world.
The image celebrates some of the company’s most innovative and famous products which have all played a part in popular culture including the iconic Unidyne 55 Microphone in the 40s and its baby sister the Unidyne 55S in the 1950s which were both loved by the big band singers, rockabilly and early rock and roll stars, the SM56 which was the microphone of choice for many musicians in the 1960s including performers at Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock, and the SM58 in the 1970s and 80s which has the legendary status of being the best-selling professional vocal microphone in the world.
We worked closely with the creative team at Shure to develop the content for the image and our friend (and partner in ‘cutaway’ crime) Malik Thomas on the illustration.
