The “Crazy Gang” of the championship, this mix of eccentrics has produced some of the most entertaining, enthralling and enjoyable performances over the seasons. A true bunch of mavericks not normally known for pulling together when playing, their influence on the beautiful game can’t be underestimated .
Shaun Ryder
No-nonsense attacking front-man playing along side freaky-dancing Bez for The Happy Mondays, Ryders trademark “Melon Twist” has been copied in playgrounds around the country. Later ambitions to lead new group Black Grape to the world stage were prematurely crushed.
Bez
Was as good off the ball as on it. His early playing career with the Happy Mondays reached dizzy heights.... which he never really came down from.
Dr. John Cooper Clarke
A true poet of the game, early promise to take centre stage was overshadowed by public ignorance of his resplendent skill set. Happily in recent years Dr JCC has gained the recognition and respect he so rightly deserves
Mark E Smith
The elder statesman of the game, Smith has been at the fore from the start of the Northern scene. May lack the stamina needed on the field to put in a winning performance for the full 90 mins. Has a habit of “hitting the bar” when a good chance is offered up to him.
